Deviry is utilized for addressing specific menstrual or uterine issues (such as abnormal bleeding and endometrial hyperplasia). It may also be prescribed for other conditions as deemed appropriate by your physician. Deviry is a progestin hormone that functions by modifying the uterine lining.
Deviry contains the active ingredient Medroxyprogesterone acetate, which is a synthetic variant of the naturally occurring female hormone, progesterone. It is employed to manage various menstrual cycle disorders.
A woman's menstrual cycle is a complex process regulated by at least four different hormones. The levels of these hormones fluctuate throughout the cycle, resulting in ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovaries), preparation of the uterus for potential pregnancy, and the monthly shedding of the uterine lining if pregnancy does not occur (the menstrual period). There are numerous stages in this intricate process where issues can arise.
Deviry comprises Medroxyprogesterone acetate, the female hormone that helps control ovulation and menstrual cycles. This medication is used to treat secondary amenorrhea and abnormal uterine bleeding linked to hormonal imbalances (such as fibroids or uterine cancer) and to lower the risk of endometrial hyperplasia in postmenopausal women.
It is recommended to take 5 or 10 mg of Deviry daily for a duration of 5 to 10 days, following your doctor's instructions precisely. Avoid exceeding the prescribed amounts of Deviry. Your physician may advise you to start taking Deviry on a specific day of your menstrual cycle. While on Deviry, it is important to perform monthly breast self-exams for lumps. Deviry may influence the outcomes of certain medical tests, so notify your doctor that you are using this medication.
Avoid smoking while using Deviry, as it may heighten the risk of blood clotting. Inform your physician of any existing conditions you may have that could necessitate a dose adjustment, such as hypertension, heart disease, recent stroke or heart attack, congestive heart failure, hypercalcemia, elevated cholesterol or triglycerides, recent miscarriage or abortion, severe pelvic pain, asthma, migraine headaches, epilepsy, thyroid disorders, diabetes, kidney disease, lupus, or depression.
Do not use Deviry if you have a known sensitivity to its components, are pregnant, have a hormone-related cancer affecting the genital or mammary areas, experience unexplained abnormal vaginal bleeding, have liver disease, a history of stroke or blood clots, or are breastfeeding.
The common side effects of Deviry include headache, dizziness, irritability, insomnia, drowsiness, fatigue, depression, nausea, abdominal pain, thrombophlebitis, cerebrovascular disorders, breast hypersensitivity, galactorrhea, cervical erosion, and dysmenorrhea.
Higher doses of Deviry may lead to acne, hirsutism, weight changes, moon facies, hyperthermia, and alopecia. Allergic reactions, such as hives, rash, facial swelling, and breathing difficulties, are also possible.
